AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): Tripura cabinet will discuss what will be State Govt's stand on NRC as Supreme Court has noticed both the State and Central Govt on NRC.Bound to avoid any sensitive statement on NRC, Tripura Law Secretary Data Mohon Jamatia however avoided what will be the possible stand of Tripura Govt on NRC. "The cabinet will decide on the stand of Tripura Govt on NRC, but till now no such decision has been taken so far", Data Mohon Jamatia told TIWN. The Law Secretary further said, in the first week on November most likely the NRC case may hear in the Supreme Court. However, no particular date has been confirmed. But earlier, it was claimed by Supreme Court Advocate Manish Goswami that Tripura NRC was tagged with Assam NRC, but Data Mohon Jamatia has denied for any hearing on Tripura NRC with Assam held on yesterday."No hearing was held on NRC so far, may be in November 1st week", Jamatia told TIWN.
On October 8, in the press briefing by Advocate Manish Goswami after hearing of NRC case of Tripura filed by "Tripura People’s Front" (TPF) said, "The condition of Tripura is worse than Assam due to illegal intrusions in the state and the case has been tagged with Assam by the Court".
"Even though the hearing date yet not announced but it expected the hearing will be on the same date with Assam i.e. on 23rd October", said the advocate.
The Supreme Court has sought response from the Centre on National Register for Citizens (NRC) to find out the illegal immigrants in Tripura.A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph referred the plea, which will now clear the stand of Tripura and Central Govt both.
Soon, in cabinet meeting this issue to be raised, said Jamatia.
