Agartala, Sep 24 (TIWN): Ahead of Durga Puja, heavy shower hit the entire state severely disrupting road and train services causing inconvenience to lakhs of commuters and office goers, especially the road communication has fallen flat due to landslides in city outskirts.

The asphalting has been cleaned up at many places of National Highway 44 exposing potholes and uneven stretches making the journey of motorists unsafe. After the rains that lashed the city, different roads have broken and even big holes could be seen which pose serious threat to the vehicles and their drivers, a motorist said.

Some of the worst affected areas are Assam Ratiabari-Agartala road, Sanicherra-Nabincherra road and Kumarghat-Manughat road. The toppings of roads have been flown and accumulated in small mounds creating natural speed breakers.

It has turned terrible for the heavy vehicles to travel over Bailey bridge. Agitation has been staged for several times demanding renovation of National Highway, but no initiative has been taken yet. The condition of NH-44 has turned from bad to worst following the heavy shower. Besides, road condition, the train service caused inconvenience to the passengers due to heavy downpour resulting in landslides at Longtrai and Sidhangcherra most of the times.

The NH-44 is one of the busiest roads connecting the state with other states and the civic body needs to make arrangements for the road’s repairs ahead of Durga Puja to avert accidents and maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

The concerned authorities should look into the matter and rehabilitate such potholes and cracks between the roads to ensure a safe journey for driver as they need urgent repairing.
