Agartala, September 24: A top artiste troupe of Mog dancers would be participating in festivities at Maharasthtra on the occasion of Dusshera, a highly placed source in the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) said today.
The source said that the 12 member cultural troupe led by Information and Cultural Officer Dayal Majumder on Wednesday left the state for Maharashtra. The Sangrai Mog dance troupe is learnt to hail from Shantirbazaar sub-division in South Tripura district. The artists would be performing in phases from September 29 to October 4, the source added.
Sangrai is a special festival of Tripura. The dance is usually practiced during a three-day festival in Tripura where younger members of the Mog community move from one house-to-house carrying the pious Wish Yielding Tree (Kalpataru) on their heads.
A number of dance and performing art forms of Tripura were displayed elsewhere in the country and world including New York where artist troupes of Hozagiri, Lebang-Bumani and other dance genres were
accorded critical acclaim.
