Heavy rain submerged Tripura : Landslides disrupts railway communication

AGARTALA, Sept 23 (TIWN): Heavy rains submerged Agartala and other sub-divisional towns - most of the places in city remains waterlogged.

Torrential rain and thunder shower along with strong wind due to low pressure struck Agartala and all districts of the state since last two days.  From yesterday night continuous rain submerged many areas. From Kaman Chowhumani to Orient Chowhumani, Satsangha Ashram, LakshmiNarayan Bari road and other places totally sinkens into water. This bad weather also continues into the coming days. Mostly during the Puja this rainy weather will continue- as informed by the Director of Tripura Meterological Department Dilip Saha. This submerged rainy weather totally spoiled the enthuasism and holiness of Mahalaya.

Other than that landslides also disrupted the Rail Communication. Train services were stalled in the Agartala-Lumding route after heavy downpour triggered massive landslides on a tunnel at Baramura – top most officials of Railway informed this.

Railway sources informed that the landslide blocked the rail-route completely. A relief team was deployed by the local authorities of the Northeast Frontier Railway from Ambassa. The relief engine started its job. Reportedly, the other side of the tunnel was not blocked by the landslides. Rescue attempts are being carried out. Local source said that a team was deployed to the spot to rescue the ill-fated train along with debris clearing equipments. NFR sources said the debris clearing effort has been hampering due to the rains. In fact, the rail track went on mud and sand has almost filled the tunnel.-But still now the rail communication does not improve. It is to be mentioned here that from 1st October railway services disrupts due to the setting of broad-gage line.
