AGARTALA, September 22 (TIWN): A reduction of fiver kilometer is likely to be achieved once the Agartala Sabroom National Highway (NH) is converted into double lane, as per the DPR report of the project implementing agency. The district administration has already issued notice for the land acquisition and the work of double lane will start soon. Post the conversion work, the distance of the NH will be reduced as most of the turning in the said road will be straightened. For the same, the direction of the road, at some places will go to a new way. Alongwith the Agartala Sabroom NH, Agartala-Santirbazar and Santir Bazar-Sabroom distance will also be reduced. The concerned NH’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared by Scott Wilson, Consulting Agency. Though the DPR has been submitted to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the four lane road but initially the permission has been granted for the double lane. The present distance from Nagerjola to Sabroom is 132.5 kilometer.

Meanwhile, the double lane conversion work from Nagerjola to Amtali will be done by the state government and the same is not within the purview of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The work, in this regard, is already in progress. The said road from Nagerjola to other places via Badharghat, ONGC complex and Tripura University is considered to be in e of the busiest roads in state. To mitigate the traffic congestion, a flyover is also coming up between Drop Gate to Fire Brigade Choumuhoni. If the distance is reduced to a considerable extent, the passengers will save both time and money and the fuel consumption will also be lessen.
