According to national media report, the students' road blockade turned into a battleground at Islampur’s Daribhita Senior Secondary School of Uttar Dinajpur district of Bengal. The protest was against the recruitment of three new teachers which the students opposed.
The students wanted a Bengali teacher but instead got Urdu teachers, so they blocked the roads in protest. Police tried to manage the situation when the students pelted stones at them, which turned the situation worse and forced the police to use rubber bullets, lathi charge and tear gas shell.
This made the students fall out of unity. In the middle of outrage, a student lost his life. Rajesh Sarkar, a student of the ITI College died from a bullet that hit him. 8 students, 3 policemen and 4 other locals have been critically injured and are admitted to the Islampur Government Hospital.
