AGARTALA, Aug 24 (TIWN): CPI-M National leader Paraksh Karat has termed the action of BJP led Central Govt by rejecting foreign fund as a 'false prestige' about the country.
"People are sending help, money, materials to help Kerala. All the state govts are also sending helps. The central govt has also acted by sending arm forces for rescue operation"
"But, the scale of the devastation was huge, whereas the Central Govt gave only 600 crores"
"At this time, some of the foreign govts had come forward to offer assistance like the United Arab Emirates with Rs. 700 crores. But without consulting the state govt, the Central Govt has declined that offer", he said.
"Central Govt has given a statement thanking the countries for offers and rejecting the offers saying India doesn't need that help", Karat added.
"There are large numbers of Indians living in United Arab Emirates and 80 % of them are from Kerala. So, it was natural for UAE has come forward to help".
"So, our question is why the central govt rejected that fund. We do not think this is a correct policy. We should not stand on false prestige that India is a big super part that we don't need any help", Karat told media.
