AGARTALA, Aug 7 (TIWN): Rather than focusing on strengthening Policing and providing 24X7 security to women of his state, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has dumped all duties of police upon the "local" society / panchayat to take action from theft cases to divorce cases. Amid PM Modi's vision of "One Nation, One Identity", Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Tuesday during a seminar held on 'Gender Sensitization' at Pragna Bhawan with the initiative of National Commission for Women said, "Rural parts of the state suffer less than town areas because people at there slap the culprits on spot. If someone robs tomato from a field, even after s/he gets first division in school, nobody will respect him / her in village. Village has a beautiful custom by 'outcasting', 'alienating' wrong-doers people from the society. "We have various local bodies in tribal community as Jamatia-Hoda, which are still active and widely respected by their community. Rather than Court, the heads of the Jamatia-Hoda decides the divorcing procedure of a couple and how much money a woman should get from her husband since separation".
"This is a beautiful aspect of our Tripura's local Panchayats and really it's not possible for police to stay in all spots", CM said.
When whole world knows it was the 'society' which has been responsible behind women's pathetic condition in rural India, the Chief Minister further stressed to strengthening the local body of society / panchayat to save women.
"In last 25-30 years there were many attempts to break that culture. The society's beautiful rule was tried to break, but they could not break the customs. Indian society is linked with the customs and one can not deny that. Police can not go to each home", the CM added.
Noteworthy, Tripura has recently suffered from mob lynching in villages but CM was mute on that issue. Rather than focussing on police and administration's strengthening the Chief Minister motivated public to take 'law' in hands and do 'action' on spot.
