AGARTALA, Aug 6 (TIWN): When NRC is hitting the debates, All India Assam Sanghati Mancha, Tripura cell has raised question, how all Indians can have valid and old documents which NRC demands ?

In a Press meet, Assam Sanghati Mancha leader Nakul Das said, "If we look into Tripura, many people don't have own home and many even don't know when their forefathers came, neither they are carrying those documents generation-wise but it can not decide that they are not Indians. They are also Indians and as their citizenship was never questioned, many must have lost documents.  Across rural areas how many people have land exchanging or citizenship's papers after 1947 ? But we all know, how fake Indians have made their valid documents here in Tripura and bought lands here. We also demand, not through the documents and data-base process but the neighbours also should be questioned about the background about the people who didn't get NRC".

The Assam Mancha further urged Supreme Court to observe the whole process of Assam Govt and Central Govt's functioning.

However, their claims got a base as many citizens including Indian President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed's family members, Mohammad A Haq, who served for the Indian Army for 30 years as Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) didn't get NRC.

The NRC is a list of people who have been able to prove that they were in India before the midnight of March 24, 1971, when neighbouring Bangladesh declared independence. It is a list of genuine Indian citizens, determined by laws unique to the state of Assam.

In Tripura all mainstream political parties except BJP have opposed NRC. On Sunday,  a Muslim body in Tripura demanded "voting rights" for all outlisted people from NRC till the process is not ended.
