AGARTALA / KAILASHAHAR, July 26 (TIWN): Tripura’s former Deputy Chief Minister cum veteran Communist leader Baidyanath Majumder’s statue was vandalized in the midnight at Chandipur in Kailashahar, raised statewide condemnation by Left Party supporters. Talking to TIWN, Kailashahar MLA cum Ex-Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said, “The incident took place on yesterday late night around 1 am. There is no doubt that this activity was done by local BJP goons under top BJP leadership’s direction. On 3rd March when BJP won the Election, they tried to burn the Party Office. When they were unsuccessful in that then a plan was made to malign our image saying arms and ammunition have been kept inside the Party Office, but police did not find out anything”."If Police investigate properly they will find out the culprits easily. We know who did this, but could not witness when they did it", he added.

“Recently also they tried to attack the party office and their attacks upon CPI-M supporters and family members are going on here. The job of statue vandalism was done in fascist style”.The CPI-M leader also said, there will be statewide protest against this incident.

“Baidyanath Majumder was not only the Deputy Chief Minister but was also State CPI-M Secretary for long 10 years. He was Central CPI-M Committee member too. Indeed, he was one of the pioneer of CPI-M in Tripura on that time”, Chakraborty told TIWN over phone.

“Apart from this vandalism, in front of people there are attacks going on upon CPI-M activists. BJP central leadership should strictly control them right now. This statue was made with people's money and BJP Govt led bulldozed party offices too were made by people's money”, he said.

“In such way, a party can not do politics at least in Tripura. Tripura is a different state and people here are peace-lover and also sensible”, he added.

Baidyanath Majumder died in 2011, June 7 at the age of 88.
