AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy on Wednesday while addressing on the occasion of ‘Girls In Aviation Day’ said, Central and State Govt are talking to bring the Kailashahar Airport under functional soon. Addressing at Pragna Bhawan, Tathagata Roy said, “Northeast has the highest numbers of Airport in compare to rest of the country. In a small state like Tripura already four numbers of Airports are there, however only 3 out of them are functional right now. We have Airports in Khowai, Kamalpur, Kalishahar apart from Agartala, but they are not now not under function, but once Kailashahar Airport start functioning then it will be benefited for the tourism. North Tripura has always been attractive for Touristsâ€.Kailashahar Airport was an airport located at Kailashahar in the state of Tripura, India. The airport was shut down in mid 1990 due to lack of space. Under PM Modi's UDAN project, Airport Authority of India's Chief Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra had visited Kailashahar Airport on December 15 and held meeting with the Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan.UDAN (Regional Connectivity Scheme) is aimed to connect small cities with big cities and Tripura's Kailashahar's name has been entered under this UDAN project.
On that time AAI Chief said, "The Regional Connectivity Scheme is meant to connect small cities with each-other and then big cities. In the 2nd round of UDAN Tripura's Kalishahar Airport is in the map".
Guruprasad Mohapatra further said on Kailashahar Airport, "Once the Airline operators want to start the operation, we will make the Airport ready".
Today Governor Tathagata Roy said that both the Central and State Govt are talking about the re-functioning of the Kailashahar Aiport.
