Preparation for Ratha-Yatra on peak at Udaipur

UDAIPUR, July 13 (TIWN): Keeping the auspicious Hindu festival Ratha-Yatara ahead, Udaipur city has been geared up in preparations.

On Saturday the Ratha-Yatra at there will be started from 4 pm and centering that occasion securities also have been beefed up in the city.

In comparison with other years, this year the programme will be conducted more grandly as the local MLA cum Minister Pranajit Singha Roy himself has taken special interest, a source said.

From Jagannath Bari the Ratha (Chariot) will start its journey whereas at Mahadeb Bari the journey to be ended and after 7 days once again the Ratha will return to Jagannath Bari.

The chariot of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balaram has been decorated and made in larger form this year.  MLA Biplab Ghosh and Minister Pranajit Singha Roy both have been in the committee of the festival. 

The Ratha Yatra in Udaipur started from 1904 when Udaipur was the Capital of Tripura known as Ranga-Mati.

In 1532 the temple was built during Bijay King Manikya’s era.

Bijay Manika’s commandant Daitya Narayan had established the temple at there with rare slate-stones, but unfortunately the temple has become abandoned and place of bats.

The idols of Jagannath, Subhadra and Balaram were shifted at Agartala in 1760.
