AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): Tripura’s "Golden Girl" Gymnast Dipa Karmakar who made a stirring comeback as she bagged gold in the women's vault event at the Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin (Turkey) on Sunday, will be announced as the brand ambassador for Tripura as the ruling BJP has requested State Govt for that. Addressing in a press conference, BJP leader Pratima Bhowmik said, “We already talked to the Chief Minister in this regard. We are now officially requesting the state govt to announce Dipa Karmakar as the brand ambassador of Tripura which will shine Tripura’s name further. Today Tripura is known for her excellent achievementâ€. However, the party is hoping Govt’s quick response in it. On yesterday from PM Modi to renowned personalities of the country have congratulated Dipa Karmakar for her achievement at the international level. The Tripura girl, who returned to action after two years due to injury, scored 14.150 to clinch the yellow metal. Dipa had topped the qualification round with a score of 13.400.
The 24-year-old has also qualified for the balance beam finals by finishing third in the qualification with a score of 11.850.
Dipa had to sit out for two years after undergoing surgery for Anetrior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

Dipa will now feature in the Indian gymnastics squad at the upcoming Asian Games.
“This medal is for everyone who never stopped believing in me! Thank you Sports Authority of India, Gymnastic Federation of India, Anant Joshi Sir, GoSports Foundation, my physio Sajad bhai, Tripura Govt, Nandi sir and Meraki Sport & Entertainment for the endless support and encouragement”, Dipa says on Monday.
