AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): BJP Mohila Morcha leader Barnali Goswami has been elected as the Women’s Commission’s new Chairperson, replacing the Manika Datta Roy. Barnali Goswami has taken charge as the Chairperson on Monday.BJP Mohila Morcha activists were present in the office to greet the new chairperson. Barnali Goswami, W/O-Jahar Chakraborty is resident of Chandrapur, Dharmanagar. The other members are Asmita Banik (Vice Chairperson), Dalia Singha (member), Mousumi Das (member), Ati Jamatia (member). Earlier, CPI-M leader Manika Datta Roy was the chairperson of Women Commission of the state. With the changing of power, like other depts. Women Commission also got new leaders.
Now it’s to be seen what changes comes under Barnali Goswami. It’s a big challenge for her to fight against the high rates of crime against women as Women Commission generally functions never against the ruing govt’s reputation.
In CPI-M’s time also Women Commission never talked against the Govt and always claimed that crime against women are curbing.
In rape cases, 183 cases have been registered in 2017, in 2016 total 207 rapes and in 2015 rape cases numbers are 213.In molestation total 260 cases came out in the last year, whereas in dowry total 339 cases recorded in last year.Total 117 numbers of kidnapping cases were registered in various police station in last year.
