Sonamura, September 6 (TIWN): Setting an example of successful co-ordination among different Govt Departments, Today in two successive raids led by SDM Sonamura Subhasis Das, a joint team of Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration, 158 Battalion BSF and Kalamchowra Police Station, have recovered huge amounts of contraband dried cannabis (ganja), codeine phosphate containing formulations of Phensedyl, and also sound emitting firecrackers. The raid started from 11 a.m., and it continued till 5 pm, spanning about six hours.
Remarkably, huge amount of illegal firecrackers estimated to be worth Rs.5 lakh was recovered during the course of the raid from the Boxanagar market. It may be mentioned that as per the Tripura Noise Pollution Control Order and the subsequent Court-Orders issued to this effect, storage and sale of sound-emitting firecrackers are prohibited, and the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration has now undertaken special drive to curb the menace of illegal firecrackers on the eve of the oncoming festive season. The seized firecrackers include chocolate bomb, chain-crackers, rocket-bombs, etc. Besides, 100 bottles of intoxicating Phensedyl Syrup have also been recovered from the Boxanagar market, the market-value of which is about Rs.3.00 lakh. In another raid operation today, 200 kg of dried cannabis (ganja) worth Rs.10.00 lakh has been recovered from the Nutan Colony habitation of Dakshin Kalamchowra Gram Panchayat under Boxanagar R D Block, and accordingly an FIR has been lodged by the BSF Kalamchowra BOP in Kalamchowra Police Station. The total market value of the seized articles thus works out to Rs.18.00 lakh.
