AGARTALA, May 21 (TIWN): Amid BJP’s ruling-existence in 7 Northeast states, the BJP led Central Govt is unable to control the opposing fire against citizenship bill from the Northeast.

As a part of protest against citizenship (amendment) bill 2016 Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) under Northeast Students Organization (NESO) organized a massive rally on Monday at Agartalam, where school students also participated.

"If the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, is passed in Parliament, the indigenous people in Tripura and other northeastern states would be affected”,  the agitators said.

On May-9 various tribal parties had sat in Hunger Strike opposing the citizenship bill. The one day hunger strike was observed at the Khumulwng today by the parties under ‘Joints Parliamentary Committee’ (JPC).

They raised slogan ‘Stop Citizenship Act’ 1955 forthwith’. They also added in slogan ‘Tripura is a victim of illegal immigrants’.

"Bangladeshi migrants through this proposed law would be settled in eastern and northeastern India depriving the original people of the region of basic rights," the tribal leaders said.
