AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Friday hit the CPI-M Govt which had ruled in the state for 25 years continuously. The newly charged Chief Minister accused the previous CPI-M Govt for ‘unscientific ‘ city design, ‘pathetic’ derange system leading flood like situation after each rain. Chief Minister Biplab Deb who himself today took the experience of city life in Agartala during heavy rains, has expressed extreme resentment against the previous CPI-M govt led AMC’s works. For the flood like situation, the CM has pointed the ‘covered drain mechanism’ which stopped the flow of water artificially.

Chief Minister has sought one year to sort out all the problems of water-logging, whereas for immediate action Rs. 7 crore have been released by him for drainage upgradation. 

Today’s flood is not the first time that the Capital city’s people have been facing, but since last 3 years the problems have increased at the highest measure. AMC top heads are also silent in this regard, even though Chief Minister said, now Govt to work upon the SMART City project for which the whole city design will be changed.

Today due to rain, thousands of people on the heart of capital city couldn’t earn their livelihood and business went in total shutdown condition due to the rain led flood.

The whole Agartala City has been drowned under rain water following Thursday night's rain. City has become immovable and office goers are sitting at home. Infact the whole city has been locked by rain water. Almost all the routes of the capital city Agartala is under heavy water logging and vehicular are moving round and round in search of “way” to go out.

Drains and roads both have been comprised forcing the people to walk through the knee-level dirty water.

People of Agartala face many problems as monsoon arrives. An issue that hassles the city every year is flooding as AMC (Agartala Municipal Corporation) planners yet to learn City planning. Earlier, AMC closed all drains by concrete cover, so it stopped cleaning of soil and garbage, in turn these chocked drains cannot carry water so water floods the streets.

There are 8 to10 points in the city where water-logging are a perennial problem during monsoon seasons triggering serious traffic jams and flooding in various localities. The resident of Agartala has been facing serious water-logging problems for the last few years. The situation gets worse during rainy season as they had to wade through at least knee- deep water. A spell of hour’s heavy rains have cause chaos in the city exposing civic bodies, lack of preparedness to address the problem of water-logging since CPI-M era.
