AGARTALA, September 4 (TIWN): Malaria outbreak continues to haunt the state with the death of one more child from Manu in Dhalai district. A highly placed source in the Department of Health and Family Welfare today said that Anjali Sabar (6), daughter of Manindra Sabar from Sabarpara, Machli in Dhalai district, died at the Manu Community Health Centre (CHC).
Anjali was admitted too late in the hospital, medical officials on duty claimed. She was admitted at the Manu CHC around 11 AM on Wednesday; the girl died at 12:30 PM without much scope of treatment.
Alarmed at the gravity of the case, a team of doctors were immediately dispatched to Sabarpara to hold an emergency health camp.
The camp, which found most villagers infected with malaria parasite, later resolved to shift all infected people to the nearest public healthcare facility for treatment, the source said.
An official communiqué from the government said later this evening that 1,612 patients called in sick at different hospitals and healthcare centers of the state today; 144 among them were found to have been infected with malaria. The total figure of malaria afflicted population in the state today crossed 51 thousand 941 since the initial outbreak of malaria in May this year.
