AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): Tripura Govt has stopped 4 lakhs of social pensions in Tripura for re-verification, whereas the CPI-M has called it ‘Unthinkable’ and ‘Undemocratic’ move.
Addressing media, CPI-M MP Jitendra Chowdhury said, “There are total 33 social pensions in Tripura and the BJP before coming in power said that it will provide alteast Rs. 2000 of allowance to each social pensioners instead of the current pension’s amount. But the last pension they withdrawn was the same like before, even though it was expected that in the first cabinet the Govt will announce about the 2000 rupees of allowance for all”.
“Instead of hiking the allowance one notification was given saying that all the social pensions will be stopped for now for review. The issued date of the notification was 14.3.2018. After 5 days of the govt formation if this is the situation, what will happen in coming days. It’s totally unthinkable and undemocratic”, Juten Chowdhury said.
“If 50000 people are proven as fraud beneficiary, punish them and stop their pensions. The person who signed the beneficiaries names, suspend him, punish him but why the social schemes have been stopped ?”, he said.
