AGARTALA, May 5 (TIWN): Corruption charges labelled against the Principal in-charge of Ambedkar College at Fatikroy Dr. Subrata Sharma, who is allegedly looting the funds since 7 years. However, similar allegations against him also came in 2016 but due to the Principal's closeness with the CPI-M leaders, no action was taken against him. About Rs. 18 lakh was embezzled in 2015 which came in media lime exposing him on January 13, 2016 in leading newspapers in Tripura. But he covered up all the issues very cunningly by using his clout and influence.

The matter has been taken to the Education Dept after political change in the state, demanding proper investigation against the corruption charges.

In a letter written to the Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the complainers said, “Principal in-charge of Ambedkar College at Fatikroy Dr. Subrata Sharma who is also in the management of the College, is running the administration of the College virtually on his own terms and condition".

"The Principal in-charge always imposed his own decision bypassing all the committees, staff in taking decision regarding of the affairs of the college”, the letter told the Minister.

It has been alleged, all his decision and action proves detrimental to the academic excellence of the College and nobody in the College has the courage to say anything against him or raise voice against his decisions for fear of reprehension at his hand. The Principal-Incharge is very close to CPI-M local leaders in Fatikroy before the change in the regime here this year or used to transfer or harass anyone in the College, whoever dare to protest against his illegal and unethical activities inside the College.

Dr  Subrata Sharma along with a PGT in the Dept of Economics of the college virtually ran a reign of terror  for last 7 years and transferred and victimized a numbers of teaching and non-teaching staff of the College to settle score with them for a reason.

It was also alleged that out of his rude behavior many of Asst Professors joined other colleges, located outside Tripura. Starting from managing the funds of the UGC to establish the faculty of science in the college he had shown his high handedness and ulterior motives always.

Some of the corruptions instances are :

  1. In 2014, the Principal In-charge withdrawn more than Rs. 18,00,000/- from the UGC fund without the consent of the UGC committee of the College or informing anyone in the college and kept the entire money in his name or some of his relatives in the form of Fixed / Term deposits in banks of Assam.
  2. Converting the new building of the college into science faculty whereas astonishingly there were no proper classroom for the Arts faculty in the College. It has been alleged that he had done so by using influence with the local ‘netas’ accommodate his wife in science faculty as guest lecturer.
  3. Taking commission or percentages as bribe from every from every faculty members whoever organized seminars, symposiums or any other academic activities by arranging grants from different institutions of national repute.
  4. Giving tenders/orders for purchasing equipments, goods and articles to a cooperative society in Kumarghat of which the PGT of the Economics Dept of the College has close association,
  5. Not paying TAs of the staff who have transferred from other colleges to the Ambedkar College, Fatikroy.

His corruptions came under media limelight in 2016, but on that time due to the CPI-M ruling, no action was taken against him.

Further, it was requested to investigate the property and assets of Subrata Sharma and the PGT of Economics Dept of Ambedkar College as it appears disproportionate to their income taking into account the volume of money they managed and misutilized during the last 7 years. I was also alleged, they have invested money in the transport sector in Assam. However, right now the corrupt persons are now trying to shift their loyalty and allegiance towards the BJP to save themselves from any prospective action by the drive against corruption initiated by the Chief Minister.
