Agartala, August 31 (TIWN): Four leaders of the All India Democratic Womens’ Association (AIDWA) were today arrested in connection with assault on a pregnant woman in a kangaroo court at Dimatali, leading to her miscarriage on August 19. Babita Khatun, A pregnant lady was publicly assaulted at a Kangaroo court at Dimatali, leading to miscarriage and serious health complications of the mother on August 19.

Kiran mala Tripura, Suprabha Debbarma, Renumala Tripura and Mala Tripura were arrested; they were charged with section 325, 316 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police said.

The arrested four were produced before the Belonia District and Sessions Judge Court. The court summoned the case diary and sent them to judicial custody till September 02.

Local sources said that Hirulal, an infamous alcoholic of the area, has been assaulting with intentions to molest or defile women for years. Hiru reportedly attacked one Babi Khatun and her mother upon her protest against a similar assault on the day.

After the duo sought redressal of their grievance from gram panchayat pradhan Hiru Das, the latter called a kangaroo court in the local CPI (M) party office. Babi Khatun was reported to have been publicly assaulted, manhandled at the supposedly redressal meeting. Her unborn child was later known to have died.

The issue later reached the PR Bari police station though the cops denied to take legal action on the issue for unknown reasons.

Alarmed at the turn of events, CPI (M) MLA Belonia divisional committee secretary Basudeb Majumder today publicly condemned the incident in a press conference and said that the party would hunt down all members or leaders involved in the issue.

“The issue came to our view much later. We can’t tolerate such incidents, even more in CPI (M) party offices. We are very clear about our strategy that these incidents wouldn’t be tolerated”, Majumder said.
