AGARTALA, August 30 (TIWN): Tripura University Officers Association organized their 3rd annual conference and national seminar on ‘Good Governance in Universities: Challenges and Experiences in Higher Education’ at Maharaja Bir Bikram Satabarshiki Bhavan here today.
Speaking in the inaugural session Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that good governance and quality education are the concepts needed for sustainable development. Good governance is the manner in which public officials and institution acquire and exercise the authority to shape public policy, provide public goods and services.
The system, values, polices and institution for managing and development of economic and social affairs through interactions within and state, civil society and private sector for sustainable development. Good governance is the single most tool for improving the quality in all spheres of higher education, he added.
He further said that quality education continues to be concern for developing model of higher education governance in India. A total of 11 to 13 percent students only get the chance to study higher education in India, he mentioned. In this case the main problem in India is the financial problem, he added.
Director of IIEST West Bengal Professor Ajoy Kumar Ray and members of Tripura University officers association were present in the seminar.
