AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): No further recruitment of teachers would be held till the Special Leave Petition (SLP) against an order of the High Court Tripura cancelling the jobs of 10,323 graduate, under graduate and post graduate teachers, minister for school education Tapan Chakraborty said today.Replying questions moved by former opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath and acting CLP leader Gopal Chandra Roy on the first day of the ongoing monsoon session of the state assembly today, school education minister Chakraborty said that Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) would be considered mandatory for all forthcoming induction process of teachers.

The minister further said that the process of reformulating teacher recruitment, complying with policy requirements of the TET as a part of the Right to Education Act was in progress.

“New teachers wouldn’t be appointed till the case of 10,323 teachers is resolved”, Chakraborty said.

The High Court of Tripura earlier said in an order that Teacher Eligibility Test was mandatory for appointment of primary teachers. The Court further observed that the recruitment process of 10,323 teachers inducted in different categories since 2010 stood invalid and issued an order to cancel all of them with effect from December, 2014.

The state government later filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) with the Supreme Court of India challenging the order from the High Court of Tripura. The petition which was already admitted in the apex court, would be heard on September 12.

MLA Ratan Lal Nath raised protest on the subject and enquired for reasons of no recruitment with teacher deficit in schools while the case was under jurisdiction of the apex court.

MLA and senior Congress leader Ashish Kumar Saha moved a private member resolution in the second half of business in the House today and asked about plans of the state government in modernizing the state education system.

“The education Minister has announced plans for setting up of education hub at Agartala but no proper steps were taken yet”, Saha said adding that the Chief Minister and school education minister couldn’t wash hands off throwing liability on teachers.
