AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN): Even though Army Chief Bipin Rawat said that Muslims in Northeast and states like Assam are not late comers, but they came around 12th century, but making a single point as 'issue' the CPI-M has protested Rawat's statement against illegal immigration.
Army Chief Bipin Rawat ofcourse mentioned about border securities, but at the same time, Rawat mentioned that Northeast has mixed population and those who are living in here, it's not possible to push them back.
Not only this, Rawat said that Muslims owe this region like others as they came in around 12th century, but ofcourse he mentioned about a section of illegal immigrations in Northeast via borders.
Tripura CPI-M in social media said that 'Once again controversy has been erupted with Army Chief's statement'.
Rawat clearly said, “I don’t think you can change the population dynamics of the area. If it was five districts to eight to nine, that inversion has taken place, whichever be the government".
"There is a party called AIUDF [All India United Democratic Front]. If you look at, they have grown in a faster time frame than the BJP grew over the years. When we talk of Jan Sangh, with two members of parliament and where they have reached, the AIUDF is moving at a faster pace in the state of Assam. Finally, what will be the state of Assam, we have to take a call, but we have to appreciate that we have to live with all of our regions.”
On the other side AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said, "Gen Bipin Rawat has made a political statement, shocking! Why is it a concern for the Army Chief that a political party, based on democratic & secular values, is rising faster than BJP?"
However, CPI-M standing against the Army Chief, has strongly criticised him in social media.
