AGARTALA, June 29 (TIWN): The Congress held a nationwide agitation on Monday against the rising prices of petrol and diesel and along with the whole nation, Congress in Tripura too has submitted a memorandums to President Ram Nath Kovind (via Governor) demanding a withdrawal of the hikes.
Congress leader Gopal Roy has rode a bicycle in display of protest against extreme fuel price hikes.
In all subdivisions protests took place demanding to stop “Loot” of pubic pockets by taxing fuel.
“Before 21 days petrol was Rs. 70 and now it has touched Rs. 80.44. Diesel-was Rs. 65 and now Rs. 75.20. Fuel price hike means all price’s hike. When 12 crores of people are jobless and GDP at zero, Modi Govt has continued its brutal price impositions”, said Gopal Roy.
The party has underlined the government's extortionist looting of common man during Covid-19 crisis.
Gopal Roy also criticized the State Govt over empty cabinet in lack of Ministers.
With the national jumping up in fuel price hikes, Tripura has recorded highest ever Diesel price. On Monday, in Agartala Diesel Price was Rs. 75.20 and petrol price Rs. 80.46. Today’s diesel rates in Agartala are very sensitive to global crude prices. Petrol prices in Agartala have been turning more volatile, as prices of crude oil have been showing a firm trend. Today’s petrol price in Agartala ₹ 80.46 (29th June 2020). The government on March 14 hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre each and then again on May 5 by a record Rs 10 per litre in case of petrol and Rs 13 on diesel. The two hikes gave the government Rs 2 lakh crore in additional tax revenue.
Currently, at the national capital, Delhi, Petrol costs Rs 80.38 a litre and diesel 80.40 per litre. Mumbai’s petrol prices touched Rs 87.14 a litre, while diesel went up to Rs 78.71 a litre. In Kolkata, the prices were at Rs 82.05 and Rs 75.52 a litre, respectively. In Chennai, petrol was at Rs 83.59 while diesel was selling at Rs 77.61.
Over 63 per cent of the retail selling price of the fuels is taxes. Rates of petrol, diesel differ from state to state, depending on the incidence of VAT.
