Emotions should not overrun reason: Pres | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Nov 16 (IANS) Prestigious awards should be cherished and emotions should not overrun reason, President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said during the National Press Day celebrations.His comment came as several artists recently returned their awards blaming the government for rising intolerance in the county.Speaking at a function organised by the Press Council of India here, Mukherjee said: "Prestigious awards are a public recognition, of talent, merit and hard work, by peers and leaders in the profession. Such awards should be cherished and valued by those who receive them." ​"Sensitive minds sometimes get disturbed by some incidents in society. Emotions should not overrun reason and disagreement should be expressed through debate and discussion," he said."We must, as proud Indians, have confidence in the idea of India and the values and principles enshrined in our constitution. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Monday, Dhallai DM said that probabilities for opening the new border haat at Kampalpur are under full swing and the association is waiting for the joint meeting between the authorities of Tripura and Bangladesh.He further said that, the association has received a green signal from the Bangladesh authorities regarding the issue to hold a joint meeting. Passenger services on Lumding-Silchar BG | SILCHAR/AGARTALA, Nov 16 (TIWN):AGM, NF Railway Dayanand Jha said that the passenger services in the newly constructed broad gauge line between Lumding and Silchar is likely to start within 15th December this year. Jha visited Silchar and Badarpur Railway station and had a meet with railway officials along with DRM Lumding Division Niraj Kumar and CEO Ajoy Pandit NFR. Currently goods-trains are running on the new track. Some technical aspects are being checked up and after that the vital railway line would become operational. The 210-kilometer long Lumding-Silchar railway line consists of 21 tunnels (the longest one being 3.23 km long), 79 major bridges and 340 minor bridges, 28 stations and four halt stations. Running of both passenger and goods trains between Badarpur and Agartala section were stopped on September 19. Mornarchak losing Rs.17 lakhs daily due | AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN): Powered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Tripura's 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant has undergone complete shutdown due to lack of supply of gas from ONGC. Unable to get the required supply of gas from ONGC, Monarchak is facing a daily loss of Rs 17lakh which monthly stands at around 5 crore. Reportedly, ONGC has stopped the supply of gas from ONGC, resulting, ONGC facing a loss of huge amount of money. Since October 16, ONGC has stopped gas supply, resulting, the complete shutdown of power generation at Monarchak. A loss of about Rs 17lakh is reported on a daily basis due to the cut down of supply of gas from ONGC. However, seeing such a deplorable condition of Monarchak due to breakdown in supply of gas from ONGC, NEEPCO is looking forward to take legal steps in the coming days.The sources claimed that the new unit of Monarchak has the stability to generate a unit of 100 MW of power but due to the cut down of the gas from ONGC since October 16 has completely stopped the power generation at Monarchak unit. | 16-Nov-2015 |
BJP asks Congress for electoral alliance | AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN / IANS) In a surprise move, the BJP's Tripura unit has requested the main opposition Congress to form an electoral alliance to fight the ruling Left Front in the state's December 9 civic polls."If the Congress does not put up its candidates in next month's municipal elections, then the opposition parties' combined vote would be able to defeat the candidates of the Left parties," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura unit president Sudhindra Dasgupta told reporters here. He said: "The Congress either can form an alliance with the BJP or support the nominees of the BJP. The BJP was gaining popularity in the state after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government came to power last year," Dasgupta said after announcing BJP candidates for the municipal elections."Results of the Lok Sabha, gram panchayat and tribal autonomous district council polls have shown that the BJP's vote share has increased substantially, eating into Congress's support base.
