AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leaders, supporters and workers including Pradesh Youth Congress, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Congress Seva Dal celebrated 100 years of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Congress Bhavan, here on Sunday.
Tripura’s Yuvraj, Congress leader Padyot Dev Barman was seen in Congress Bhawan after many days on this occasion.
Congress Chief of Tripura Birjit Sinha, MLA Gopal Roy and others also paid floral tribute to Indira Gandhi and marked the day.
Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi was an Indian stateswoman and central figure of the Indian National Congress. She was the first and, to date, the only female Prime Minister of India.
Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984, near her then Delhi residence by two Sikh security guards who wanted vengeance for authorizing a military attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar five months earlier. Later, massive riots erupted in the nation following her murder, as Hindus took their revenge on Sikhs.
