AGARTALA, Oct 8: Tripura Police has intensified security preparations across the state ahead of Durga Puja 2026, with 11,348 personnel set to be deployed to ensure peaceful celebrations at 2,905 puja pandals.
Tripura DGP G.S. Rao held a press conference to brief the media on the security arrangements and preparations for the upcoming festival.
According to data shared by Police Headquarters, 2,905 Durga Pujas have been organized across Tripura as of October 8, slightly lower than the 2,928 pujas recorded in 2025.
As part of the security plan, 349 police vehicles will be deployed for patrolling and quick response. Police have also established 256 Traffic Assistance Booths across the state to regulate traffic and ensure smoother movement during the festival.
Surveillance has been strengthened with 218 CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations, while 169 watch towers have been erected to monitor crowds and maintain security around major puja venues.
For anti-sabotage checks, 10 Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs) and Hand-Held Metal Detectors (HHMDs) will be deployed at major puja pandals.
Special security personnel will also be deployed on trains during the Puja period. In addition, plain-clothes personnel from the Special Branch will monitor the movement of suspected anti-social elements and keep a close watch on potential security threats.
Police are also taking strict action against illegal collection of Puja subscriptions. The DGP said five extortion cases have been registered as of October 8, with police maintaining a strict watch on attempts to collect money illegally in the name of Puja.
District-wise Arrangements
West District has the highest number of pujas at 719, followed by Sepahijala with 428 and Khowai with 408. West District will also receive the highest surveillance coverage, with 45 CCTV cameras and 45 watch towers, along with eight DFMD/HHMD units.
Gomati has 363 pujas, while North District has 300 and South District has 287. Unakoti has 221 pujas, followed by Dhalai with 179.
Compared with 2025, the number of pujas has increased marginally in North, Unakoti, Khowai, Sepahijala and South districts, while Dhalai, West and Gomati have recorded slight declines.
The DGP appealed to puja organizers and citizens to cooperate with the police, follow traffic guidelines and immediately report any suspicious activity.
Tripura Police said the extensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure that Durga Puja is celebrated across the state in a safe, peaceful and orderly manner.
