AGARTALA, August 1 (TIWN): Two insurgents of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were arrested on Friday from a residential household near Meher Kalibari near Lake Chowmuhani market in Agartala city, police officials said. The ultras were arrested by Intelligence Bureau (IB) sleuths. The arrested duo was later identified as Jagadish Debbarma and Indrajoy Reang, both residents of Kanchanpur sub-division in North Tripura district, a duty officer from the West Agartala Police Station said here this evening. The ultras were arrested from a civilian residence along Pragati Road based on a tip-off from the central intelligence, the police said.
The Intelligence Bureau sleuths recovered two extortion receipt books of the banned terror outfit, twenty-three female photographs and Rs. 5,000 in Indian currency. The currency notes were later confirmed to be fake notes.
Asked about preliminary investigation outcome, the duty officer at West Agartala Police Station today said that the arrested duo is suspected to have come to the city to collect extortion money from some of its victims. The might have also come to find customers for Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).
The police, however, said that no weapon save a knife was found on the arrested duo.
The police authorities said that investigation is on to find the urban network of the outlawed terror outfit.
NLFT is reported to be having close relation with terror outfits of the NE states like KLO, ULFA, NDFB.
