AGARTALA, August 01 (TIWN): In the absence of proper management and planning, the Department of Welfare for Schedule Tribes is allegedly being affected by way of “autocratic and inexplicable” decisions by L. H. Darlong, who has been holding charge as Secretary and Director, Department of Welfare for Schedule Tribes department for last four years

According to insiders, Mr. Darlong was appointed as director of the department in 2008 and secretary in 2010 of the same department after the retirement of  S. K. Das. Whereas due to some unknown reason till date he has been  holding the dual charge of the department.  This  has an adverse affect on overall working and functioning of department. “This has stifled growth and vitiated the atmosphere in office,” said an official.

An official pleading anonymity said, “Serious resentment has evoked  among tribal bureaucrats for holding the dual charge  both of secretary and director of the same department ,there are no dearth of efficient  tribal bureaucrats in the state, yet Mr. Darlong is holding the dual charge “. 

Notwithstanding the government sanctioning a hefty budget of for the department, there have been no tangible results, due autoractic decision of Mr. Darlong.With more money in the kitty, the expectations of ST  have risen. But, the department has failed to deliver owing to various reasons. It is also alleged that the secretary is giving preferential treatment to a particular section of tribal community.
