Agartala, July 12 (TIWN): The Ministry of Urban Development approved a project of Rs. 57 crore 18 lakh for developing cityscapes in Dharmanagar Municipal Council area in North Tripura diistrct, Urban Development Minister Manik Dey said here.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat, the minister said that the project was aimed at developing the entire cityscape including buildings, roads, drinking water supply network, waste management etc. The project, initially conceptualized under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Project (IHSDP) was later taken over in the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) after the erstwhile project underwent a technical change in
Speaking about details of the project, Urban Development minister Dey said that Rs. 36 crore 20 lakh out of the approved project cost would be spent for upgrading the buildings of Dharmanagar city. The rest of the money would go for upgrading city components like dustbins, cattlesheds, community centers, all weather-proof sub-ways, street lighting, drinking water supply system, sewerage network of the city etc.
The municipal council would be selecting beneficiaries from among the civic residents. Anybody having ownership and possession of a plot of land fulfilling the state building rules would be considered eligible for the benefits of the project, the minister said.
Townships like Sonamura, Udaipur, Belonia, Ranirbazaar and Teliamura were sanctioned similar projects under the IHSDP beforehand.
