KAMALPUR, Oct 18 (TIWN): The Kamaleswari Kalibari of Kamalpur had passed the mark of hundred years long ago.
But the organizing committee not arranged any program to mark the moment. The temple got some steady monthly donations from different people.
The temple also got some market stalls distributed among the unemployed youths from where the committee got a considerable amount per month. The temple building and the seating place in front became deplorable.
All those needed early maintenance. But, the organizing committee remained in slumber for more than two decades. The last meeting of the organizing committee was held way back in 1993.
From then many changes happened. Many members of the committee died. The SDM hold the post of President of the committee by virtue of his post. In this period several SDMs got appointed and transferred.
But, the organizing committee not arrange for a single meeting. The accounts for all those years remained hidden from the devotees and donors. And all these created resentment among the citizens and devotees.
Moreover, the idol was decorated during the Durga Puja and the Diwali with the gold ornaments preserved in the treasury. This practice also ceased for a long period. But, the committee remained in mysterious slumber during the period.
Recently, the matter was brought into the notice of the SDM Subhasis Das. He initiated to look into the matter. In this connection, he already issued a letter to the Secretary of the Organizing Committee.
He also planned to look into the accounts of the Kalibari for all those years and the needed reshuffle of the committee. Now, the commoners gathered the hope that, the committee would awake from its slumber and the Kalibari would get the much needed maintenance and modernisation.
It might be mentioned here that, the Kamaleswari Kalibari was set at Kamalpur in 1906. Till then the institution acquired a social importance and significance to the inhabitants irrespective of religion.
