AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): A Tripura administrative officer identified as Panna Ahmed who had been accused of raping a Muslim woman has been arrested, and was produced before the court on Wednesday for further hearing amidst tight security.
It is to be m mentioned here that Panna was brought in court and produced before the court for hearing. Security has been tightened across the premises of the court. Huge crowd have been gathered in the lower court to know about the proceedings of the Panna Ahmed case.
However, Panna Ahmed was arrested after 18 days of an FIR was lodged against him from the Karimganj district of Assam, a police official said.
Panna Ahmed, who was nabbed after a joint initiative by Tripura and Assam police, was brought to Agartala on Wednesday to face trial.
The victim alleged that he raped and assaulted her at his residence after calling her to discuss the prospect of renting a room out to her on June 27.
An FIR was lodged at the West Agartala women’s police station against Ahmed under sections 342, 376, 506 of the IPC. He has since been suspended.
The victim’s husband is a lawyer practicing in the Sonamura court in Sepahijala district of the state.
