KAMALPUR, May 2 (TIWN): MGNREGA has been running in incongruity with embezzlement of funds. Allegations were raised against Surama Panchayat for embezzling NREGS fund of around Rs 83,000.
A total of Rs 83,210 was allotted for the construction of dam over Chhoto Surama rivulet in the year 2008, said an official source. Asked about the issue, residents of Surama Panchayat said that the dam was constructed near one Dhaneswar Ahir’s house to Bijoy Ahir’s house in 2008.
The said dam was constructed to save the land of the residents. But, the natives raised complaints against the local Panchayat members for hanging a signboard mentioning that total Rs 83,210 was used as part of the work order.
“No work has been done in the area after 2008. Since the Panchayat members led by Panchayat Pradhan and Secretary hanged the signboard stating that work was done in the area on Feb 24. We want to know where the entire money got utilized”, said one resident.
On being asked, Seema Rabidas admitted that only 160 man-days were generated. The remaining could not be generated due to lack of time.
“As per the guideline, a signboard has to be erected before the commencement of construction work. So, no money has been misappropriated. The allocated money would be utilized soon, “said Seema.
