KAMALPUR, July 11 (TIWN): The pending wages of MGNREGA work done in the month of December, 2015 & in several other works at this fiscal created chaos and pandemonium at the Baligaon Panchayat this morning.
The wage deprived laborers demanded immediate paying of their wages. And the authority tried to calm them on the point that they would get the wages soon. And on this point heated arguments and abusive languages got uttered.
According to the information, the Baligaon panchayat which was a part of erstwhile Bilaschara panchayat had 589 MGNREGA job cards and among them 569 card holders remained active.
But still, 254 MGNREGA laborers remained out of the AADHAR linking with their bank accounts. In this context, they continued to face problems for getting the wages regularly. And the situation became so worse that, some of the laborers not yet got the payment for the works completed in December 2015.
Several times they knocked the panchayat authority about the matter. The authority referred the matter to the higher up officials and the matter remained under process. But not disclosing the matter to the laborers, the authority only provided them with assurances after assurances.
As a result, the laborers used to knock the bank and to come back bare hands. In this context, some laborers like Kajal Shuklabaidya, Pinki Das, Ratan Das once gain went to meet the panchayat authority. There Kajal lost his temper and got into hot altercations with the official.
However, the matter not became big enough. Still, such resentment continued to brew in several panchayats regarding the MGNREGA wages and might ignite devastating situation at any moment.
