AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): It is being speculated that CPI-(M)’s highest decision making-body; Politburo’s first female member, Brinda Karat is going to enter the fray for filling up the vacuum in the lone Rajya Sabha seat of Tripura created by Jharna Das Baidya. Karat has been Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal since 2005. She is among those few leaders in her party at the forefront who has never been a people’s representative. As the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election 2016 is ensuing, she has ostensibly fled the battlefield by apprehending a prospective defeat. Many years ago, Silchar Lok Sabha MP, Santosh Mohan Dev was summoned by the Congress in Tripura to contest. Dev’s adversaries termed him as a ‘seasonal bird’. Karat’s foes are following suit in this point.
The incumbent Rajya Sabha MP of Tripura, Jharna Das Baidya’s tenure would be completed on April 2, 2016. As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) is concerned, polling would be conducted on March 21 between 9 AM to 4 PM. Election notification would be published on March 4, 2016.
The first Rajya Sabha MP of Tripura was Arman Ali Munshi of Communist Party (the 1962 cleavage was yet to occur) in 1952.
