AGARTALA, Feb 17 (TIWN): Though several initiatives has been taken to curb the road accidents, yet several incidents of road accidents are being reported.
Allegation has been raised that lack of awareness among the common mass and mostly the lack of strict law or official negligence are some of the major reasons behind the increasing number of road accidents.
Besides, the roads and footpaths across the state are in a deplorable condition for prolonged days. Most footpaths in the city have shed their topping and pedestrians have to be extra cautious while encountering the bumpy skeletal trails now. The roads are no better either since the topping that were given less than a year ago have developed into potholes.
On the other hand, the over loading of passengers in the vehicles getting misbalanced the vehicles are also reason to meet with road accidents.
It is to be mentioned here that a school going child has lost his life in a road mishap by a pickup van.
The child has been identified as Debraj Nath.
Reportedly, the incident took place at Nutan Bazaar and the child was a student of Nutan Bazaar Sonamura School.
Though in the road safety weeks various awareness camps are being done to curb road accidents where the people are urged to avoid over taking and reckless driving but a section of drivers of the passenger vehicle are least bothered.
According to some locals, the traffic rules must be strengthened and more officials must be deployed in the major parts of the roads. As there are drivers who break the traffic rules while they cross the traffic zone of the capital as there is no strict vigilance in the roads of the interior.
