AGARTALA, Dec 3 (TIWN): Along with the whole world, Tripura on Thursday observed the World Disabled Day.
To mark the day, Vidya Welfare Society has organized a programme at Press Club. Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women Purnima Roy has inaugurated the programme.
During the programme, several disabled children have performed on cultural activities. Besides, an exhibition was also organized where decorative items made by the disabled has been displayed.
Addressing the programme, Chairperson Purnima Roy highlighted on the need to provide education to the people with disability.
Besides, she also mentioned that if the disabled are encouraged to perform well than they can also shine in their life.
World Disable Day is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It is being observed on December 3.
The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
Besides, it is mainly observed to increase awareness among the people to help the people with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
People in various parts of the world participate in various ways to promote the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. They also organize various events which may include art exhibitions promoting artwork by people with disabilities.
However, on another attempt All Tripura Blind Committee also organized a programme at Office lane with aim to encourage the disabled people.
