AGARTALA, September 15 (TIWN): Land Ports Authority of India on Monday organized a Van Mahotsav at Akhaura Check post.
During the programme, Minister Tapan Chakraborty has planted saplings. Altogether 30 saplings were planted in the area.
It has been mentioned that this kind of initiatives has been taken every year.
Speaking at the programme, Minister Tapan Chakraborty said that trees are an important part of every community. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings.
Using trees in cities to deflect the sunlight reduces the heat island effect caused by pavement and commercial buildings.
He also stressed that saplings must be planted in all the check post of the state. Trees are essential to the eco-systems in which they reside. Far reaching roots hold soil in place and fight erosion.
