AGARTALA, September 14 (TIWN): One-day long awareness programme on Child Rights has been organized on Monday by the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
Minister of Social Welfare & Social Education Bijita Nath has unfurled the programme in the presence of Mayor Prafullajit Sinha, Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women and others.
Speaking at the programme, Minister Bijita Nath said that the Child Rights has been first initiated at Tripura thinking about the betterment of the children and their rights.
Criticizing the Central Government she further said that the central is not taking any initiatives for the Child Rights rather they are reducing the allotment of the fund to the Aganwadi centres and the other organization dealing for the betterment of the children.
It that case, the State Government had to manage extra so that the children can get their rights.
She hoped that such awareness programmes will awaken and influence the young minds in bringing about a healthy and peaceful environment in our society.
Tripura government has constituted State commission for protection of child rights to comply with recommendations of the national commission. Senior CPI (M) leader Rupa Ganguly has been made chairperson of the State commission which would have the mandate to protect child rights under relevant laws.
The State commission would have the responsibilities to undertake welfare action for distressed children, work under ambit of child labour (protection and regulation) act, 1986, protect children from getting employment in business and domestic areas and ensure child health rights and protection of juvenile justice system.
