Kailashahr / UNAKOTI, June 27 (TIWN): with the initiative of PWD department, Unakoti district to get a new prison at Jarultoli area under chandipur block.

Construction work has already begun and separate complex to be constructed for the employees of the Jail division of Unakoti. All together 11 crores 97 lakhs 4 thousand and 839 rupees to be spend for the construction of the jail. 

Presently, construction of hundred seated cell division in the jail is going on and in the coming days a separate cell in jail will also be constructed for the women.

Residential accommodation for staff members has also been arranged at the staff hostel and construction work is under process, said Chandipur block BDO.

 Along with providing clean drinking water, making provision of adequate medicines in jails and employing more staff will also be facilitated.

In this ‘correction home’ many prisoners get the chance to work while carrying out their sentence, eg making clothes and furniture or electrical engineering. This is done in prison workshops and is normally paid work.

Prisoners can also work around the prison itself - eg in kitchens and laundries.
