AGARTALA, April 27 (TIWN): REGA workers and Police personnel were injured in a fresh violence at Hezamara Rural Development Block on Monday on the issue of non-payment of REGA wages to the deprived workers. The incident took place at Chonkala panchayat office under Hezamara Rural Development Block.
According to police, around 25 REGA workers including police personnel were injured when the workers gheroad the Chonkala panchayat office under Hezamara Rural Development Block and started breaking the panchyat office gear.
Immediately, huge contingent police force rushed to the spot and fired water cannon and tear gas to dispatch the workers.
The REGA workers alleged that they are not getting the REGA wages for the last couple of months and the concerned panchayat members has been playing a role of a silent spectator leading to massive irregularities in REGA payment.
A section of workers have alleged that the central government allocated a large amount of fund for the poor NREGA workers but the Panchayat chairmen, CPI-M local leaders and REGA masters are plundering huge funds without implementing the works accordingly.
According to the NREGA workers, the management committee embezzled a huge fund from their payment by depriving the local villagers.
It is mentionable here that the state Tripura is already under the limelight of massive corruptions and scams in MGNREGA fund. And besides, such irregularities in REGA wages under almost every Panchayats of the state are often coming out highlighted where the workers are being deprived at large and often they show a protest in front of the panchayats. But the administration has been playing a role of a silent spectator, with the state govt. leaving no stones unturned.
