Agartala, February 22 (TIWN): Pouring water on all the expectations of anti Left united panel of Congress, Trinamool Congress and BJP, the Leftist panel of lawyers- All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) made a near clean sweep in Tripura Bar Association’s election. The leftist panel won four posts out of five office bearers and nine out of ten posts of members.
This year, over 700 lawyers have cast their votes out of 801 enlisted voters. Altogether 30 candidates of two panels- Left panel and anti-Left panel contested the polls.
Haribol Debnath was re-elected as a president of the Tripura Bar Association by securing 410 votes for third consecutive year while Subrata Roy bagged 369 votes to be elected for the post of vice-president.
Bhaskar Debbarma won the poll with 420 votes as secretary while Mrinal Kanti Biswas of Left panel and Jiban Krishna Sen, candidate of non Left united panel were jointly elected as assistant secretary by securing 362 and 348 votes respectively.
The elected members of the Tripura Bar Association include Shibani Roy, Sudip Sutradhar, Tapan Debbarma, Sukanta Paul, Uma Chanda, Tarun Dey Sarkar, Debdas Bakshi, Kajal Chandra Deb, Manju Deb, Minhaz Alam of Leftist panel and Rana Gopal Chakraborty of non Left united panel.
Interestingly, only two candidates of non Left united panel- Jiban Krishna Sen and Rana Gopal Chakraborty were elected as assistant secretary and member of the executive committee respectively.
In addition, the Tripura Bar Association has constituted its 15-member executive committee for the year 2015-16. After the announcement of the result, all the winning candidates thanked the voters for keeping faith on them.
