Agartala/Teliamura, February 22 (TIWN): In a fatal road mishap, at least seven passengers sustained severe injuries at Hawaibari adjacent to Assam-Agartala National Highway in Teliamura sub-division here today. Among the injured passengers, condition of eight persons including a child is stated to be critical and they were shifted to GBP Hospital, said police.
They were identified as- Shipra Das (38), Nityalal Mandal (45), Swadesh Gope (40), Aparna Das (25), Rina Debbarma (35), Amrit Das (34), Uma Ghosh (36) and Santi Das (1.5 years), said police.
According to police, while a passenger bus bearing the number- TR01-1408 was proceeding towards Teliamura from Agartala, a 12-wheel lorry loaded with goods coming from opposite direction dashed the bus. As a result, the bus lost its control and collided head on with a tree in the roadside.
In the tragic mishap, at least 20 passengers of the bus have received grievous injuries on their persons and they were taken to Teliamura sub-divisional hospital immediately after the accident.
Sensing serious condition, the attending doctors referred eight passengers including a child to GBP hospital of the total injured persons.
After receiving information on road mishap, police of Teliamura police station rushed to the spot and seized the bus but failed to trace the offending 12-wheel lorry till the last report. Police have registered a specific case in this regard.
