KAMALPUR, Feb 20 (TIWN): The necessity of Geo-satellite Earth stations in the communication sector almost ended with the introduction of optical fiber based technology. Hence the Geo-satellite earth stations lost importance to the country’s largest and most service providing cellular company BSNL. And as a result, the earth station with valuable equipments of lakhs of crores of rupees left unprotected at Guradtilla in Kamalpur for last one decade or more.
In 2005 last, the BSNL set up their office at Kamalpur town and the optical fiber connectivity was stretched to that office soon. Then the geo-satellite earth station lost importance. The engineer appointed at the earth station was transferred to the Kamalpur station. From then on, the earth station remained unprotected although many valuable types of equipment like signal catching system, dishes, transponders, receivers remain there. But the authority remains reluctant to remedy this wastage of public money.
