AGARTALA, Oct 10 (TIWN): A driver was apprehended by the police at the Bisramganj Naka Point on Friday evening for allegedly smuggling smartphones worth lakhs of rupees. The police seized a Bolero vehicle (TR01H4307) carrying a large consignment of smartphones from Agartala to Sonamura.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajib Sutradhar intercepted the vehicle and recovered the smuggled smartphones. The driver failed to produce any valid documents for the seized items.
The police investigation revealed that the smartphones were likely being smuggled to Bangladesh. The incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of local police stations, with many members of the public preferring to approach higher authorities, such as the District Superintendent of Police, directly.
