AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): A daring burglary took place at the Anandanagar Girls Hostel in West Anandanagar under Srinagar police station. The thieves struck on the night of August 17, targeting the hostel while it was closed for the Independence Day and Krishna Janmashtami holidays.
The hostel's in-charge, Supriya Debnath, had left for home, and the night guard, Rabindra Majumdar, allegedly failed to show up for duty without informing the authorities. Taking advantage of the situation, the thieves made off with gold ornaments and approximately Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, with the total loss estimated to be around Rs 3 lakh.
The Srinagar police station has registered a complaint and launched an investigation into the incident. However, locals are questioning the police's ability to apprehend the culprits, given the frequency of thefts in the area under Srinagar police station's jurisdiction.
