AGARTALA / KANCHANPUR, Aug 15 (TIWN): In a tension-triggering note, ahead of the 79th Independence Day in Tripura, two militants with explosive items were caught by Tripura police. The two militants belong to Tripura United National Front (TUNF) and were arrested by police with prohibited items, which are used in bomb blasts.
Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed concerns over the situation but also thanked the Tripura police for their tight patrolling and successful catching of the culprits before anything could happen.
According to The Indian Express report, the Tripura United National Front (TUNF) is likely operating from Assam. The arrested militants' main aim was to kill police and other security personnel deployed on Independence Day and loot their arms and ammunition, stated the report.
“Right now, nothing can be said, but there is a group that is trying to disturb the peace here in Tripura. But fortunately, our police personnel are working tirelessly in patrolling and guarding the state,” said the CM.
He anticipated that this militant group might have a link with Pakistan.
He also said that such heinous attempts can’t be prevented, but he believes, Tripura police will always prevent all such incidents in the future too.
