Charilam, Aug 9 (TIWN): A worker was electrocuted while clearing jungle near the Charilam Power House on Saturday afternoon. Subhash Debbarma, 52, from Dharia Tal village, fell from a height after coming into contact with a high-tension electrical wire. He was immediately taken to the Bishramganj Primary Health Centre for treatment and later shifted home after receiving initial medical attention.
According to Durjay Debbarma, a fellow worker, the incident occurred due to the negligence of the Technical Assistant at the Charilam Power House, who failed to disconnect the power supply before starting the jungle clearance work. The worker suffered severe injuries and is currently under observation at home.
It is alleged that an officer from the power department visited the Bishramganj hospital and expedited the medical examination to keep the incident under wraps. However, the news reached the media, raising concerns about the safety measures taken by the power department and contractors.
