Udaipur, July 16 (TIWN): The CPIML Udaipur Division Committee submitted a memorandum to the DGM of the Udaipur Electricity Department, demanding the cancellation of the smart meter project. The committee alleged that the smart meter project has brought immense hardship and disaster to the middle-class, working-class, and poorest people of Tripura.
The memorandum, led by Partha Karmakar, stated that the smart meter has become a source of terror for the people, with many unable to pay the exorbitant bills. The committee demanded that the smart meter should not be made compulsory and raised 12 key demands.
The demands include scrapping the smart meter project, not making it mandatory for all, and waiving the additional fuel charge in electricity bills. The committee also demanded that the government should follow the footsteps of West Bengal and Maharashtra, which have suspended the installation of smart meters.
If the demands are not met, the CPIML has warned that it will launch a larger movement across the state, involving the people.
